The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday intensified the picketing of the Skycare Catering services, an Airline Services and Logistics (ASL) company at the Lagos Airport with the picketing which was started July 31, 2019, entering its seventh day on Tuesday.
Members of the union in solidarity with their affiliate body, the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) marched round the arrival and departure halls of the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos chanting solidarity songs with placards carrying different inscriptions.
The union was demanding for an end to the alleged unjust and unlawful condition of service which include: employment without letters; no terms of engagement or conditions of service; arbitrary termination; victimisation on the basis of joining and holding office in a trade union and refusal to recognise a registered trade union.
Secretary-General NUATE, Comrade Ocheme Aba, said since they were yet to achieve the aim, the picketing would continue to escalate with the assistance of the NLC Lagos State branch.

His words: “Our demands are that ASL should respect the constitution of Nigeria Section 40, recall the sacked union leaders in the company they relieved about 18 months ago and stop the continued victimisation of the workers.”
The Secretary-General, Nigerian Union of Railway Workers (NUR), Comrade Segun Esan said the action by the union was a direct response to a breach as it concerns the welfare and well-being of the workers.
While emphasizing that they would remain in solidarity with NUATE until the issues were addressed, Esan declared: “The management is recalcitrant, for us it will be no retreat, no surrender.”
