THERE was jubilation in Enugu District of the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) last week following the move by the NIPOST management to rehabilitate the infrastructural facilities in the zone.
The news of the plan came barely few hours the staff of the NIPOST decried the dilapidation of their office buildings as well as poor facilities which they attributed to the cause of poor service delivery in the organisation.
The news of the rehabilitation came from the Post Master General (PGM) and Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Bisi Adegbuyi when he paid an official visit to Enugu.
Speaking during the event, PMG and CEO, Mr Adegbuyi told the workers that he had moved round the environment to see the condition of the buildings and was not satisfied with what he saw.
Adegbuyi said that the business of NIPOST would no longer be business as usual because it now had all that was needed to achieve greatness, pointing out that they had made proposals to the Federal Government on how to assist NIPOST to perform optimally.
“I have moved round the whole environment and found out that the buildings and the environment are in bad condition and need to be tackled to create a conducive environment for the staff and boost the revenue.
“The business of NIPOST will not be as usual, but will be unusual business as we have all it takes to turn the organisation to a high revenue building organisation for the Federal Government of Nigeria,” Adegbuyi said.
He said that his administration would take care of the unconducive working environment and staff welfare, and urged workers to work assidiously to achieve effective service delivery as NIPOST intends to partner with private and public sectors to make sure that it regained its position.
“If you want your welfare to be taken care of, you also need to assist NIPOST in blocking some leakages because if we do that, we can save enough money to take care of our welfare”, he pointed out.
Earlier in the event, the Area General Manager, AGM, Enugu, Joseph Agofuru, lauded the PGM for his good work since his assumption of office as the PGM.
Agafuru pointed out that Enugu district had achieved much in marketing despite the poor and unfavourable working condition in the territory.
“Enugu office has generated over 100 per cent of revenue targeted for the year and would do more. It is imperative that we give you accurate information with regard to the positions of our human and material resources as well as to identify some of our marketing potentials. Our main strength is in quality, dedication and commitment of our officials despite the poor working environment which made it possible for us to generate over 100 per cent of targeted revenue for the year,” Aguforo pointed out.
Agafuru urged the PGM to help Enugu district complete the abandoned teritorial building project located at Okpara Avenue that would not only accommodate Enugu territorial staff but zonal staff.
