Niger govt resuscitates COVID-19 protocols as 18 corps members test positive

Niger State Government has confirmed that no fewer than 18 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to Niger State have tested positive for COVID- 19.

This was coming after Tribune Online reported on Tuesday that the government announced the result of the screening conducted by the officials of the State Ministry of Health and Hospital Services in the state on some NYSC members recently deployed to the state by the scheme to have tested positive for COVID-19 on their resumption at the NYSC orientation camp at Paiko in Paikoro Local Government Area of the state last week.

The State Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Idris stated this on Wednesday while addressing Journalists at the press gallery in Government House, Minna, and the cancellation of the weekly State Executive Council meeting over the death of a former retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) and a former Senator, representing Niger North Senatorial District of the state at the National Assembly, Abuja, Senator Nuhu Aliyu.

Alhaji Muhammadu Sani Idris said Niger State government has directed the immediate resuscitation of all COVID-19 protocols in the state to mitigate its impact, stressing that whoever goes to every public place in the state shall not be allowed to access such places without putting on their nose masks.

According to him, henceforth, any civil servant and visitors alike who fail to wear his or her nose masks will not be allowed entrance into government offices.

Meanwhile, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State will lead members of the State Executive Council for the burial of late Senator Nuhu Aliyu on Wednesday in Kaduna State.

The deceased was said to have died in the early hours of Wednesday in Kaduna following a protracted illness.
