AS part of efforts to inculcate the virtue of peace in order to curb restiveness among the youth, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) CEDECOM-Nigeria says it is organising a talent hunt show.
The President of CEDECOM-Nigeria, Mr Prosper Okafor said this at a news conference in Abuja on Thursday.
Okafor said the programme tagged; “National Youth Talent Hunt for Peace and Security’’ was conceived by the NGO to contribute its quota in reversing the growing trend of insecurity in Nigeria with a special focus on the youth.
“The talent hunt is designed to create a platform that will reach out to youths to commit to cultivating peace in their hearts and minds.
“They will preach and speak the language of peace in a way that will inspire others to do same for the sake of unity of our great country,’’ he said.
According to him, the programme, which will also create a lot of jobs across Nigeria, is aimed at creating opportunity for talented youths to showcase their skills and abilities.
He said this would help them to actalise their dreams and become self-reliant in various sectors of the Nigeria economy.
Okafor said the project would also help the youth to lay solid foundation for their personal growth, leadership development and cultural exchanges.
He said in order to ensure the success of the programme, the NGO would adopt six components aimed at discovering latent talents in the youth for promotion of peace and security across Nigeria.
Okafor listed the components to include: National and State Youth Peace and Security Summits, Youth Entrepreneurship Programme, Nigeria Youth Soccer Championship, and Nigeria Peace Song and Dance Competition.
Others are; National Youth Cultural Festival and Nigeria Youth Peace Award.
