The election is the medium for selecting or choosing leaders to run the affairs of a country, state or region for a stipulated period of time. Elections are conducted by bodies saddled with the responsibility of conducting an election in a country e.g. Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria.
INEC, which is responsible for conducting a free and fair election, has been in charge of an election in Nigeria since 1999. During the years in which INEC has conducted elections, there have been a series of postponement of elections, manipulation of results and massive rigging.
INEC boss disagrees with Buhari on ruthless actions against ballot box snatchers
The most recent are the 2015 and 2019 general elections. The former was due to insecurity while the latter was based on logistics issues. This makes one to wonder what the body has been doing since 2015.
The postponement of the election slated for February 16, 2019 to February 23, 2019 has dissuaded a lot of Nigerians, most especially those who had travelled from various locations to the polling units to cast their votes. They wasted their hard earned incomes for transport. Business organisations also recorded huge losses on that day, huge losses on that day, unfortunately. The disgraceful and disappointing decision of INEC stirred inconveniences among Nigerians.
I, however, urge my fellow well-meaning Nigerians to troop out en masse to vote for their preferred candidates into various elective posts on Saturday to make Nigeria great again.
