AS part of its efforts to enhance the capacity of its staff, the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), in collaboration with RockEdge Consulting Ltd, has held a two-day capacity building workshop for its staff.
Tagged ‘Capacity Building of Skills Development for Efficient Service Delivery for Employment Generation,’ the workshop is designed to expose participants on the importance of efficient service delivery in the NDE, equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to enhance their service delivery in the context of employment generation.
The Directorate’s staff were also taught techniques for efficient service delivery, such as communication, problem-solving and customer service.
The training also harped on how the staff can contribute towards successful employment generation initiatives of the present administration, develop effective communication techniques and to explore active listening and empathy building skills and efficient service delivery in employment generation.
Certificates were given to the participants with a charge to apply knowledge gained during the training in their various states.
The training drew participants from NDE’s offices across 36 states including the FCT.
Speaking at the opening session of the workshop, NDE’s Director-General, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, reiterated the mandate of the NDE, which he said centred on mass employment creation.
He noted that the task of job creation demands that the staff of the agency to be up and doing.
Fikpo added that it is in realisation of this that the NDE management placespremium on staff training as a means of ensuring that the operators and implementers of the organisation’s employment generation programmes creatively design and execute their duties effectively.
He assured the participants that the NDE management will continue to provide the needed support for optimum performance from the. Speaking further, he charged the workshop participants to apply themselves to rigors of the two-day training in order to justify the resources invested in the exercise.
Earlier in his remarks, the lead consultant for the training, Dr Bulus James of RockEdge Consulting Limited, told the DG that the NDE will benefit immensely from the subsequent output of the participants after the capacity building exercise.
He went on to say that the task of job creation, which the NDE is saddled with demands a highly skilled and versatile workforce ready to think outside the box and bringing innovations to bear on their everyday assignments in the agency.
He added that resource persons were carefully chosen to facilitate the training to cater to the needs of the participants.
Seven papers were presented during the two-day workshop and they were on effective communication skills for service delivery, effective leadership and management techniques for department heads and supervisors; roblem-solving and decision-making for effective service delivery; planning, organising and implementing innovative projects for employment generation; personal development for service delivery professionals and public procurement process, contract management and performance monitoring.
