The National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA), may have begun a search for a befitting office for its National headquarters, given its proposal for approval of the sum of N250,806,800 from the National Assembly in its 2022 appropriation request, presented to the joint session of the national assembly last month.
President Muhammadu Buhari, in an annual ritual of the budget presentation, requested the national assembly to approve the appropriation bill inside which is the proposal of the National Biosafety Management Agency.
Tribune Online inquest on the budget proposed by the biosafety agency showed the provision for an ongoing project in its headquarters plan.
It reads: “ERGP 19139319 establishment of national biosafety management agency (NBMA) headquarters” for the cost of “N250,806,800.”
To complement the establishment of the new headquarters, of the NBMA, another ongoing project coded ERGP19150572 would be deployed for the acquisition of office equipment at the sum of N35,070,000. The agency also planned to spend N10 million on fittings.
The regulatory body for the safety of organisms, man and the environment said that it would expend another N20,000,000 million on its “ERGP19139333 establishment zonal offices in south-south, south-west, north-central geopolitical zones.”
The National Biosafety Management Agency has the mandate to ensure the safety of biological material interaction with man and the environment for the safety and responsible deployment of these materials for man’s benefit.
