Navy begins construction of NOWA’s skills acquisition centre in Oghara

The Nigerian Navy Logistics Command, Oghara in Delta State has commenced the construction of the Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA) Skills Acquisition Centre.

The command’s coordinator of NOWA, Mrs Loveleen Lassa disclosed this during the inauguration of the NOWA’s secretariat and the foundation laying ceremony of the association’s proposed shopping complex at the Logistics Command.

Mrs. Lassa said the skill acquisition project, when completed, would serve as part of the NOWA’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to its host communities.

“The skill acquisition centre will be opened to members of the host communities as part of the NOWA’s corporate cocial responsibility initiative.

“The structure will have offices and a conference room on the lower floor, while the upper floor will accommodate the skills acquisition centre that will comprised tailoring and bakery sections,” she said.

Mrs Lassa also thanked the leadership of the Nigerian Navy Logistics Command, Oghara, led by the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Rear Admiral Sileranda Lassa for providing NOWA with a secretariat.

According to her, the association had no office in the command until October 2020 when the FOC allocated a section of the building complex for the establishment of the secretariat.

“Before, the Nigerian Navy Logistics Command, Oghara had no offices or structures for NOWA.

“The NOWA Secretariat has recently been completed and tastefully furnished to provide an enabling environment for carrying out the activities of NOWA in the Command,” she said.

Earlier, the national president of NOWA, Hajiya Nana Gambo, who inaugurated the secretariat said that the desire of the NOWA was to  establish zones in every Naval formations of the Nigerian Navy across the country.

Mrs Gambo, wife of Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Awwal Gambo, said the gesture would enable better organisation of the association as well as enhance reaching out to fellow women living within and outside the barracks.

She applauded the leadership qualities of Rear Admiral Lassa, describing him as a ‘beacon of hope to NOWA and the Nigerian Navy.’

The foundation laying stone of the proposed shopping complex was done by Mrs Gambo.

The event also witnessed the planting of trees by some members of the NOWA led by Mrs Gambo at the Logistics Command.
