The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) have commended the Ondo state commissioner of police, Wilfred Afolabi’’s intervention in a recent attack on its members in Igbese, Ondo state.
This was stated during a courtesy visit led by the chairman, Joint Campus Council (JCC) Ondo Axis, Joshua Oluwarotimi, alongside other student leaders.
In a statement issued to journalists after the visit, Oluwarotimi noted that the meeting was convened to discuss the ongoing investigation into the unfortunate attack on NANS members on Sunday, 23rd of February, in the Ogbese community in Ondo state.
He expressed profound appreciation to Afolabi for his decisive leadership and swift intervention in handling the matter.
Oluwarotimi also commended the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad (SAKS) for their professionalism and prompt response, which led to the apprehension of some of the perpetrators involved in the attack. The delegation emphasised the need for a thorough investigation to ensure that all those responsible for the assault are brought to justice.

He, however, urged the Ondo State Police Command to expedite legal proceedings against the suspects, reinforcing the principle that no individual or group is above the law.
Furthermore, the NANS JCC Ondo chairman reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting the rights and safety of Nigerian students.
The leadership assured the Commissioner of Police of its readiness to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure a secure and conducive environment for all students in the state.
He urged students of tertiary institutions in the state to report any form of intimidation and harassment to the appropriate authorities for swift intervention.
“This meeting is convened to discuss the ongoing investigation into the unfortunate attack on NANS comrades in Ogbese on Sunday, February 23, 2025, while they were en route to Abuja for the NANS National Convention.
“In light of recent events, NANS JCC Ondo wishes to remind all Nigerian students, particularly those in Ondo State, that any form of intimidation, harassment, or violence against students will not be tolerated. Students facing threats or any form of oppression are encouraged to report such incidents immediately to the appropriate authorities and NANS JCC Ondo leadership for swift intervention.
“The association remains resolute in advocating for the welfare of Nigerian students and ensuring that justice prevails in the Ogbese attack case,” he concluded.
