A man, Funsho, has approached Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, praying it to dissolve his union to his wife, Nura on the account of irresponsibility, disobedience and constant fight.
Funsho stated that Nura had a caustic tongue and was in the habit of abusing him.
Funsho also said that Nura was dirty and always left their home looking untidy.
The plaintiff further said that the defendant failed to raise their only child properly.
According to the plaintiff, the defendant was in the habit of taking their child to school very late on a daily basis.
Funsho added that he gave her N150,000 to start a business, but that Nura squandered it.
The plaintiff further implored the court to restrain her from harassing, threatening, or interfering with his private life.
Nura denied all the allegations brought her.
The defendant agreed that the court dissolved their union.
Nura accused Funsho of neglecting and starving her and their child.
Funsho, in his evidence, said, “My lord, if I had known that my wife is irresponsible, I would not have paid the huge sum of N25,000 as her bride price.
“Nura lacks discipline.
“She is dirty and always left our home looking untidy.
“My wife has a caustic tongue and is always ready to abuse me any time I call her attention to her lapses.
“Nura frustrates all my efforts in seeing to it that she fares well.
“Till date, my wife has not been able to account for the N150,000 I gave her to establish a business.
“She squandered all the money on frivolities.
“Nura is obviously not disciplined, and she is gradually passing this trait to our daughter whom she takes to school very late on a regular basis.
“She has refused to change despite my several counsels.
“My lord, I no longer wish to go any further in my marriage to my wife.
“I pray that this honourable court dissolve it.
“I also plead that the court stops her from interfering with my private life.”
Nura, in her testimony, said, “I am also fed up with him.
“He neglected me and our child.
“He was not committed to our child’s feeding, education, and medical care.
“It is true that he gave me N150,000 to run a business, but I eventually spent it on food because our child and I were starving.
“We fight every now and then over his failure in taking care of the home.
“The last time we fought, he dug his teeth into my palm and but me.
“He later took my money, seized my phone, and locked up my property.
“My lord, I plead that the court grant me custody of our child and make my husband responsible for his welfare, giving feed, education, and health care priority.”
The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo, after she heard both parties, stated that it was clear both were no longer interested in their wedlock based on the evidence given.
Ruling, Akintayo dissolved their wedlock and granted the defendant custody of their child.
She ordered the plaintiff to be responsible for her upkeep
Akintayo also restrained the defendant from harassing, threatening, and interfering with the plaintiff’s private life.
