I was diagnosed with high blood pressure last year after complaining of headache, dizziness, difficulty with sleeping and sharp pains at the back of my left shoulder. After using the drugs prescribed, my blood pressure came down only to go up again when I stopped using the drugs. Kindly help me as I don’t want to be dependent on drugs all my life as I am only 35 years of age.

If your hypertension is secondary to some underlying illness, it can be effectively managed once the secondary cause is treated. However, when your high blood pressure is due to some unknown reasons including genetics, as it is usually the case in many instances, you will still need medications for a very long time. However, with exercise and a life style devoid of stress, you may be able to cope with a minimal amount of medications.
