A man, Tade Gbadamosi has sought for the divorce of his wife, Mariam Gbadamosi at Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, on the grounds that she is troublesome, rebellious and destructive.
Tade told the court that rather than enjoy his marriage to his wife, he has endured their relationship for years.
He explained that she was in the habit of coming to his sop to fight him and destroy the wares in his shop.
According to him, Mariam succeeded in sending away his customer as a result of her irrational behaviour.
Tade also stated that the defendant on discovering that he had a girlfriend threatened to kill him.
The plaintiff thus appealed to the court to end their relationship.
Mariam denied all the allegations leveled against her by her husband.
The defendant accused her husband of irresponsibility and neglect of their children.
Mariam stated that she was the one clothing their children and paying their school fees.
She further said that Tade failed to be a man when they needed him most.
According to her, he deserted her and their children and failed to shield them from the wrath of armed robbers when they broke into their apartment.
Tade in his evidence said, “My lord, I have been enduring my marriage to my wife since we got married. I derive no joy in our union.
“My wife never listens to my counsel. She is stubborn, troublesome and flouts my orders at will.
“I bought her a sewing machine so that she could make a living out of it, but she abandoned it and left it to rust.
“Armed robbers once broke into our apartment and attacked us with dangerous weapons, but I managed to escape.
“These men of the underworld went away with my belongings among which was my phone and money.
“My wife stated that she was scared these robbers could launch an attack again and thus insisted that
she and our children were no longer going to stay in our compound.
“Mariam went along to rent another place after I stood my ground we were living nowhere else.
“I warned her that the step she took could lead to the break- up of our marriage but she remained adamant.
“My lord, I have not shirked my responsibility towards my wife and our children even after she left.
“I pay them regular visits at her new place and always give her and our children feeding allowance.
“I have also made our children’s education my priority.
“Mariam still not satisfied with all that I do, will come to my shop to fight me and destroy my goods.
“She sent away my customers.
“My wife became irate when she learnt I now have a girlfriend and threatens to kill me.
“I fear she can make real her threat, which was why I came to court.
“I am tired of our marriage and thus plead with the court to end our relationship.”
Mariam responding told Tade, “You are a liar. You never bought me a sewing machine.
“You have been indifferent to our children’s education. I am the one feeding and clothing our children.
“I also pay their school fees.
“My husband is not a man. He failed to protect me and our children when armed robbers broke into our apartment.
“He escaped and left us to face the wrath of these people of the underworld.”
The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo adjourned the case.
