THE Presidential candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADC), Dr Obadiah Mailafia, on Thursday, said his arrest and seizure of his international passport were political witch hunt by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government.
Speaking with the Tribune Online on phone in Abuja, Dr Mailafia said the security operatives, during the questioning, asked him to join and support President Muhammadu Buhari in his bid to secure the second term in office.
According to him, honestly, it is a political witchhunt. Now, they said there was a policy on Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in 2006 that some foreign exchanges were given to the bank to manage and the bank now turned around and said the money was a bailout and I should come and explain.
“I told them the policy was made around 2006 October and I left CBN in March 2007 and within that four months, I don’t know what happened. Even my department doesn’t handle cash. Those who are managing this department have not been questioned. It is only me, in fact, during the questioning, they even asked me why can’t I join Buhari and everything will be alright, I then asked them why can’t Buhari come and join me? Honestly, this our democracy is being threatened.” He lamented.
