MUSLIMS in the country have been called upon to venture into the study of the Holy Qur’an with devotion to the understanding and interpretation of its text.
The Director-General, National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) Abuja, Professor Abubakar Sulaimon, who made this call on Wednesday in Ilorin at the final ceremony of the Kwara State 2023 Qur’an recitation competition, said this is a way for Muslims to strengthen their faith and love for Allah.
The NILDS DG, who was represented by a former permanent secretary in the state, Dr Garba Manjo, in his remark as the chairman of the occasion, also described a good understanding of Islam as a way to promote knowledge, justice, fairness, equity and unity.
“Learning the translation of the Holy Qur’an will enhance our spiritual development and promote peace, unity and harmony among us.
“Through the learning of its meaning and translation, we shall be more knowledgeable about our noble religion of Islam and the principles of justice, fairness, equity and unity which it preaches,” he said.
He used the occasion to rally Nigerians’ support for the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu.
“I urge all Kwarans and Nigerians to be more united and be tolerant of each other, and support the reform agenda of the government of President Bola Tinubu to move the country out of its economic doldrums,” he said.
Earlier, the chairman of the Qur’an recitation committee, Alhaji Shehu AbdulGafar, recounted the success stories of representatives of the state at various Qur’an recitation competitions across the world.
He commended the state governor, Malam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, for his financial and moral support for the committee and its cause.
He, however, implored the governor to fast-track the process of the approval and release of land for the construction of a Qur’an memorisation centre in the state.
