Since entering the Nigerian market more than a year ago, Gemtracks is continuing to see growing popularity in the country. Gemtracks is a freelance platform for musicians, mainly used by Nigerians to offer music production services to clients overseas. Most of these clients are in North America and Europe. Clients pay around $150USD per track.
“I am so happy with all the feedback I have been receiving from my Nigerian members,” DJ Jesse Neo, the owner of Gemtracks stated. “I have always been in love with Nigeria since I was young, and it had always been a mission of mine to expose Nigerian music to the Western world, in particular, Hollywood.”
So far, more than 2,000 members from Nigeria have joined the website, with another 5,000 from other African countries.
According to Jesse, more than 10,000 musical collaborations have been completed on the website in the past year alone.
“Most Nigerians that join Gemtracks come to make beats and instrumentals for singers in Western countries,” the DJ and businessowner continued. “Since opening to Nigeria, I have seen genres like Afrobeats and Reggae capturing a lot the attention overseas, which were all created by the talented music producers in this country. Lately, I have also been seeing other African genres such as Semba, Mbalax and Highlife becoming popular, which to be honest, was very interesting as I have never heard of these kinds of genres before.”
Gemtracks started as a private beat store in 2016 that DJ Jesse Neo used to sell his own personal music. However, when the pandemic started, he began getting feedback from musicians worldwide to turn the website into a freelance marketplace. Seeing the success, the goal of Gemtracks changed to allow musicians from all over the world, of different cultures, to come together and collaborate and produce record-breaking music.
Now that Gemtracks has made a name for itself, Jesse hopes to allow not only musicians to make money from their music, but also become businessowners. In fact, Gemtracks has just launched a new software for anyone to create their own music marketplace that you can see on their website.
