Multiple car accidents within a period of 24 hours have claimed 10 lives while several others were injured in Bauchi state as confirmed by the Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
While confirming the crashes, Bauchi Sector Commander of the FRSC, Yusuf Abdullahi, said 5 people died in the latest accident which occurred on Thursday just as three other persons sustained serious injuries in the accident.
He explained that the accident occurred in Gubi village along Bauchi – Kano road around 7:45pm on Thursday when a Keke Napep with registration number: BAU 01 WL had a head-on collision with a Sharon commercial bus with registration number plate: KLW 641 ZA.
Yusuf Abdullahi, who said that it took the Corps barely 14 minutes to arrive at the scene of the crash to clear the site on rescue operation, attributed the cause of the road crash to speed violations and overloading.
The Sector Commander said that, “Eighteen people were involved in the crash and they were all males. Five died on the spot and three others sustained injuries. The remaining ten people involved in the crash were unhurt” .
The FRSC boss explained that the injured persons were taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBU-TH) for treatments while the remains of the deceased were deposited in the morgue of the same hospital for identification and collection by their relatives.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Sector Commander had confirmed that five people were killed in a fatal crash that occurred at Nabardo village along Bauchi-Toro-Jos busy highway.
He said that some of the passengers were burnt beyond recognition in the crash involving two vehicles, a Toyota Hummer Bus of Gombe Line and Toyota Sienna Bus of Adamawa Sunshine which had a head-on collision.
He said nine other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries in the incident saying that: “The crash occurred on Wednesday, at 1.35pm at Nabardo village, along Bauchi – Toro highway. It was caused by dangerous driving and speed violation. This led to the multiple crash which involved two commercial vehicles” .
He also said that, “The vehicles are a Toyota Hummer Bus of Gombe Line and Toyota Sienna Bus of Adamawa Sunshine which had a head-on collision. There were a total of 15 people involved in the crash comprising 13 male adults and two female adults” .
According to him, “Immediately the crash happened, the vehicles went up in flames. Two of the passengers were burnt in the fire. When we were called, our personnel rushed to the scene within 15 minutes for rescue operation. They rushed them to the Toro General Hospital for treatment and confirmation where a medical doctor confirmed five male adults dead”.
“Those who sustained varying degrees of injuries were nine in number, eight male adults and one female adult. Some of them sustained burns, some cuts while some of them had bruises”, Yusuf Abdullahi said.
The FRSC Boss said that the corpses were deposited at the Toro General Hospital while the injured were receiving treatment at the same hospital.
“We will not relent in calling on drivers to always drive within the approved speed limit and they should obey all traffic rules and regulations laid down by the government,” he admonished.
