Meta offers entry-level roles with $200,000 starting pay

Meta Platforms Inc., the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads, has opened entry-level engineering positions offering a salary of over $200,000 per annum, underscoring the fierce competition for talent in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector.

The tech giant has several high-paying, entry-level software engineer positions open that only require a bachelor’s degree. The platform seeks talented engineers to join its teams and help build cutting-edge products that connect billions of people worldwide.

Meta, valued at about $1.83 trillion, is seeking fresh graduates and early-career professionals with limited experience, including those who have completed just one internship or a single university project.

A recent listing for Software Engineer (Product) roles offers a starting pay of $178,000, while another Fullstack Engineer position begins at $176,000, requiring only “one university-level course, one research project, or one internship” in programming languages such as Python, C++, PHP, or React framework.

In some cases, candidates with just 12 months of experience are being offered up to $258,000, according to job postings reviewed by Fortune.

According to report, Meta’s move reflects its growing urgency to secure the best AI developers as global competition intensifies. The company has reportedly poached several engineers from Apple and OpenAI in recent months to strengthen its AI division.

Meta’s Chief Executive Officer, Mark Zuckerberg, has been vocal about his company’s commitment to leading the next wave of AI development. In a memo to employees earlier this year, he described Meta’s investment in the field as “the beginning of a new era for humanity,” pledging to “do what it takes for Meta to lead the way.”

He has also emphasised that skills outweigh formal education in Meta’s recruitment strategy. Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg in July 2024, Zuckerberg said he values people “who can learn something and take it to an excellent level.”

The high salary offers come after Meta’s $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI, a company founded by 28-year-old tech entrepreneur Alexander Wang, whom Zuckerberg has described as central to Meta’s future AI ambitions.
