An International partner agency, Alive and Thrive fhi360, has declared that it is operating in Nigeria with the mandate of behavioral change on Maternal, Infants and Young Children Nutrition (MICYN) with the aim of promoting the culture of Exclusive breastfeeding to mitigate against child killer diseases.
The assertion was made by the Project Officer, Communications of Alive &Thrive fhi360, Isaiah Ude while speaking during a one-day training for Journalists, Bloggers and other social media influencers on the role of Media in promoting Maternal, Infant and Young child Nutrition (MIYCN) amongst others held at Hazibal Suites, Bauchi.
He stressed that the media has a very pivotal role to play in sensitization of the public on issues of health in order to call them to action.
According to him, the survey has revealed that every household has a particular medium it listens to for information either conventional or new media, the more reason, participants for the training were drawn from a different segment of the media industry.
He stressed that the outcome of the survey revealed that 79.9 percent of the people constantly access information from the media and are influenced by such information leading to action.
Isaiah Ude said that “The Media is to help us push the message of MICYN to members of the public to promote its objectives for the health of the child in its first 1,000 days of life.”
“The training will focus on how to report MICYN issues effectively and proffer solutions in order to get better results.
Participants for the training were drawn from Print, Broadcast and social media platforms and relevant CSOs in Bauchi state as well as staff of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (BASPHCDA).
