MDCAN expresses hope for improve health education

The Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), have expressed hope that the health education of Nigeria will soon improve for better health services.

The national president of the association, Dr Victor Makanjuola, stated this on Tuesday during the opening ceremony of the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Jalingo.

According to him, the NEC meeting of the association will provide resolutions and recommendations that would be handy in engaging the political actors and policymakers on effective strategies for revamping the nation’s healthcare and medical education systems, as it will stem the tide of massive brain drain in the health sector.

He also disclosed that the (MDCAN) National Officers’ Committee (NOC) was forging ahead with other relevant organizations to overcome the multitude of challenges like, appropriate remuneration for members, perennial brain drain, the deteriorating standard of medical education, dearth of infrastructure in the hospitals and generally unsatisfactory conditions of service.

“This meeting will also provide another opportunity for our association to brainstorm strategies and policies towards improving the standard of medical education and healthcare delivery. The theme has been carefully chosen to address contemporary issues affecting the medical education sector in Nigeria,” The national president expressed.

Earlier, the MDCAN Chairman of Taraba State, Dr Ahmed Jatau Loh, while judging from the theme of the meeting ‘Providing Quality Healthcare Services in a Scarce Resource Environment’, lamented that Nigeria was no doubt facing a lot of challenges in terms of economic and human resources for health but believed the resources were available but probably lack judicious utilization.

He also assured that the MDCAN meeting would proffer solutions to the challenges.
