
THE Anambra State government in line with the National Council on Health under the Federal Ministry of Health Abuja, says it will sustain the present tempo of strengthening the Health Sector for the interest of its citizens.
The state commissioner for Health Dr Joe Akabuike stated this during a press briefing in preparation to official flag off of the second round of 2018 Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week next week Monday, 26th November, 2018 at PHC Ukwulu, Dunukofia local government area of the state.
The commissioner, observed that the recent success achieved in the state’s Health Sector is as result of the commitment and efforts of the present administration in collaboration with healthcare organisations in the state towards ensuring good health of the citizenry, describing good health of the state residents as one of the top priorities of Obiano’s administration.
Dr Akabuike who disclose that this year second round of MNCHW week is expected to reach out to 1,048,521 children between 6-9 months, advising nursing mothers on how to maintain good hygiene as well as ensuring balance diet for their babies, warned them against practices capable of deterring the growth and proper development of their babies, even as he called on parents in the state to avail their children and wards the opportunity of the free immunisation to save them from communicable and other childhood killer diseases.

He said  the medical commodities for the exercise are to be distributed free to all pregnant women and children. He equally urged other caregivers to avail themselves of this opportunity and make sure that their children receive these interventions slated to be carrying out in all government primary health care centres, designated general, teaching, mission/private hospitals, churches, markets, schools among others.
On her part the Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ASPHCDA), Dr. Chioma Ezenyimulu, lauded the efforts of the Governor at improving the health status of the people of the state through improvement on disease surveillance, immunisation and other health services, calling for its sustenance, even as she assured the continuous the commitment of her agency to the health welfare of the less previllage in the society.
She thanked the Governor for not relenting on his good works in the state which he noted has taken all the state’s sectors to a high pedestrian when compared to other states of the federation, assuring him of the people’s unalloyed support to his government.
The Maternal Newborn and Child Health week is a week long exercise aimed at reducing preventable maternal, neonatal and child morbidity and mortality in partnership with UNICEF, WHO, NPHCDA, among other faith based organisations.
