MURIC’s charge came on the heels of the time limit the Senate gave the police boss to arrest and prosecute perpetrators of the recent mass killing in Benue State.
The organisation, in a statement by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, said the IG’s deterrent action must not be limited to Benue State alone; he must spread his dragnet to other volatile states where killings of all forms had occurred.
It said arresting and prosecuting herdsmen alone for killings in Benue State could only give Nigeria peace of the graveyard.
“For lasting peace, we must fish out those who have been killing herdsmen and rustling their cows. That is comprehensive justice. Only a holistic disciplinary action can halt the cycle of violence,” MURIC said.
It described who “ethnicise” or “religionise” killings as enemies of the country who “are deliberately inviting anarchy” and condemned any suggestions that the killings in Benue State were targeted at Christians.
