A total of 17,413 adolescent girls have been targeted for voluntary enrolment in safe space sessions under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project in Zamfara State.
This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Zamfara State Project Coordinator AGILE, Hajiya Saadatu Abdu Gusau, who also doubles as Permanent Secretary, Multisectoral Donors Partners, while declaring open the inception meeting on life skills for the State Project Implementation Unit team, implementing partners, and other stakeholders in the state.
The inception meeting was organised by Voluntary Aid Initiative (VAI), the lead partner, the Centre for Community Excellence (CENCEX), and Victim of Violence Foundation (VOV) in collaboration with Zamfara AGILE project held at Command Guest Inn in the state.
Hajiya Saadatu further explained that life space is an avenue where girls will be able to receive training on menstrual pad self-hygiene.
In his opening remarks, the Executive Director of Voluntary Aid Initiative (VAI), the lead partner, Ambassador Musa Umar Aboki, disclosed that they acknowledged the presence of the AGILE project with its many benefits to the community in the state.
“We feel okay with the AGILE project in the state, which is why we keyed into one of its components for the development and success of the project implementation in the state,” he stated.
Also, the Executive Director of the Centre for Community Excellence (CENCEX), Adamu Abubakar Kotorkoshi, revealed that part of the objective of the inception meeting is to build the capacity of the relevant stakeholders on AGILE life skill activities.
During the meeting, stakeholders such as traditional rulers, development partners, CSOs, media, and religious leaders were in attendance in the state.
