A 55-year-old man, Ebere Akpu has been stabbed to death by his nephew on Sunday.
Both the deceased and the killer, Monday Eze were said to be members of the same family and they hail from Ebonyi State.
Eze before the incident was an apprentice at a laundry shop owned by a man named Gozle John. Lagos Metro gathered that an argument ensued between the deceased and Eze around 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, and that while Akpu went to sleep; Eze allegedly stabbed him to death, with a knife.
A neighbour told Lagos Metro that, “when Akpu arrived around 9:00 p.m., I called and warned him against joining them in their baseless argument since he was religious as if I knew he was going to die.
“The deceased does not live or work there, he only comes to visit his nephew once in a while.” Another neighbour who spoke under condition of anonymity said that they tried to rescue him but it failed. “The deceased did not die immediately; he struggled and was heard crying in agony and shouting ‘Oga Monday!’. He crawled to the toilet area before he collapsed.
“A tricycle driver took him to a private hospital where he was rejected and later died.
The suspect has been taken to Elere Police Station.
His family have resolved that the case will be between him and the government.
The police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmus confirmed the case. She said, “The victim died on the way to the hospital. The corpse had been deposited at Mainland Hospital Yaba, the suspect had been arrested and the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.”
