Lagos lawmaker facilitates trip of 3 football youngsters to France

Three Nigerian outstanding students undertaking leadership training under the auspices of Deputy Majority Leader, Lagos State House of Assembly, Honourable Olumuyiwa Jimoh, on Thursday left for France to join their counterparts for the Streetfootballworld Festival 16.

Rachel Olabanji, Baliqees Rasaq and Faris Afolayan will be in France for the next two weeks, having been selected for the tournament that will involve other youths from 52 countries.

According to organisers of the event, the climax of Festival 16 will be a street football tournament played using football3.

“The tournament will be open to the public and played in the internationally mixed- teams, demonstrating the power of football to bring people together from diverse backgrounds.

“Instead of referees, the young leaders from the festival delegations will act as mediators, enabling the players to take responsibility for their own actions and demonstrate their commitment to working together, on and off the pitch,” the organisers said.

They added that the game, which is a “three halves” one was aimed at promoting value of fair play and also show-case the cultural identity of each participating country.

Speaking at an event to bid the beneficiaries farewell, a chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Caleb Awolola, who represented the party chairman of Apapa-Iganmu, lauded Honourable Jimoh, just as he enjoined the beneficiaries to be good ambassadors of Nigeria in general during their stay in France.
