The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has recovered a total sum of N18,886,754 as refund and compensation for consumers, in the state.
The money was recovered for consumers who sought the support of the Agency to get redress from infringements on their rights by retailers and traders of various consumables.
The Agency’s General Manager, Mrs. Kemi Olugbode, in a statement, disclosed that the Agency receives complaints daily from aggrieved consumers seeking redress from various unfair trade practices in the State.

She noted that while 87.1 per cent of the total complaints received by the agency, from consumers were amicably resolved; 9.4 per cent are still receiving attention, while 1.5 per cent await court judgment and two per cent dropped for lack of merit.
Olugbode revealed that complaints were received from various sectors of the economy including Transportation, Banking and Finance, Food and Beverages, Insurance, E-Commerce, Telecommunications and Property.
Others areas are Electricity Distribution Companies, Confectioneries, Manufacturing, Automobiles, Pharmaceuticals, Chemical and Agro-Allied Companies, among others.
While urging consumers to take advantage of the agency to seek redress whenever there is an infringement on their rights, free of charge, the Lascopa boss added that complaints, with relevant documents attached, could also be forwarded, online, through the Agency’s e-mail addresses.
