VICE Chancellor of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, has said that no university in the world can attain greatness without quality staff.
Speaking at the first KWASU administrative achievement award ceremony, won by the deputy vice-chancellor, Administration, Professor Saka Mahmoud, Professor Na’Allah said that only great universities could help in nation building and growth.
The vice chancellor, who lamented “siddon look” attitude among some university scholars in the country, said that future of any nation depends on scholarly researches and findings.
He, therefore, charged university scholars in the country to intensify efforts at producing work that would help development and growth of the nation and humanity, saying, “if not, it means that resources spent on scholars are all wasted.
Na’Allah also charged the KWASU university staff to continue to do all that is required to be counted among exceptional scholars in the country, saying that scholarship is all about rigour and vigour.
He said that determination, selflessness and dexterity among the university staff had kept the state-owned institution going in the face of crunching economic crisis, four years after the state government stopped annual subvention, adding that, “it’s our destiny to succeed.”
The vice chancellor, who said that the award was meant to keep the university staff active and productive, added that it would also serve as motivation to perform better.
He also described the award as a milestone achievement that would put the university on the world map, saying that there would be no compromise on making it a world-class university.
Responding, the award recipient, Professor Saka Mahmoud, hoped that the recognition would spur his colleagues to be exceptional, saying that no university can function when every assignment was left with the vice chancellor to carry out.
