Authorities of the Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) and the Kwara state government have said that existing partnerships between them will be encouraged to cause more development in the state’s rural communities.
Speaking at an induction training for the newly appointed staff members of the commission in Ilorin, the state capital, the state coordinator of HYPPADEC, Mrs Hajara Ndaman Alhassan, commended the Kwara state government for regular payment of counterpart fund aimed at encouraging the development of the host communities.
Mrs Alhassan, who said that the commission had distributed life jackets and purchased 10,000 motorcycles to tackle insecurity in the HYPPADEC host communities, explained that the training programme was to keep the staff abreast of Financial management, administration and programmes of the government to boost service delivery and career progression in the public service
Also speaking, the managing director of the HYPPADEC, Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, said the commission was charged with the responsibility of managing the ecological menace due to the operation of dams and other hydroelectric power activities in the power-producing areas of Nigeria.
Represented by the Director of Community and Rural Development of the HYPPADEC, Dr Mahmud Mohammed Umar, the HYPPADEC boss said that the new staff would be better informed on ethics, rules of engagement and responsibilities to the host communities after the workshop.
