Kwara APC tendencies set for ward congresses

The two major tendencies in the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have expressed their preparedness for the Saturday ward congress.

However, political observers in the state opined that the party may have decided to repeat the 2018 conduct of its congresses whereby two factions of the party held parallel congresses in the state, on the same day.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin, on Thursday, members of the party loyal to Alhaji Lai Mohammed, led by the Caretaker Legal Adviser of the party, Barrister Ladi Mustapha, said the people were prepared for the congress, “provided every other thing remains constant.”

“We hereby express our preparedness for the ward congresses of our great party, which commences on Saturday, July 31, 2021, provided every other thing remains constant.

“In spite of the unnecessary contours and roadblock mounted by some adversaries of this party, the truth has vindicated the just, that our flight of progress has continued to fly in higher altitudes. We have proved to the reactionary group that we are made of stiffer stuff and that the moving train is unstoppable.”

The group, which blamed the Buni-led national leadership of the party for the crisis rocking the party in the state, “It is difficult to absolve the current National leadership of our party of complicity in the crisis rocking APC in Kwara State today. They have tried all the tricks in the book to pervert the cause of justice on issues, but our God is a God of justice.

“Gentlemen of the press, I am delighted to inform you that we have secured nomination forms for all prospective contestants into positions at the Wards and Local Governments in compliance with the set guidelines for the exercise.

“Furthermore, we have notified the relevant agencies as required by the Electoral Act, 2006 (As Amended).”

Mustapha, who said that factional chairman of the party’s caretaker committee, Hon. Bashir Bolarinwa remains the constitutionally recognised chairman of the party in the state, added that “the Supreme Court ruling on Jegede Vs. Rotimi Akeredolu Governorship election should be bold enough on the wall of justice that Hon. Bashir Ọmọlaja Bolarinwa’s chairmanship is as solid, in law, as the Rock of Gibraltar.

“Therefore, it is advisable for the political masquerades to step back to the shrine and allow peace to reign in the party.
