The founder, KolaDaisi University (KDU), Ibadan, Oyo State, Chief Kola Daisi, says in all matters relating to education at the tertiary level, there is a crucial need for support and goodwill of both national and international stakeholders.
According to him, with this deep knowledge and experience, KolaDaisi University was established to build a centre for relentless search and research for the dissemination of knowledge to Nigerian young men and women upon whose shoulders lie the future development and greatness of the country and the world.
Chief Daisi made the comments Wednesday last week at the official welcome ceremony organised for the visitor to the university, Sir Eldryd Parry, and a warm reception in honour of the chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), KDU, Emeritus Professor Oladipupo Akinkugbe, to mark the celebration of his retirement and achievements in life.
Receiving officially Sir Eldryd Parry, who came with his wife, Lady Helen Parry, Daisi said “Professor Parry has spent his life and times in pursuit of this noble objective of acquiring knowledge, wisdom and skills and placing them at the disposal of humanity at large, travelling the world (especially in Africa) disseminating same to various institutions of higher learning.”
While welcoming both Parry and his wife, Helen, who is also a university don, to Nigeria and KDU, Chief Daisi said KDU had become one of the beneficiaries of their vast knowledge, as he acknowledged how deeply honoured the institution was to count them as its friends, and expressed the hope that the friendship and mutual goodwill would grow from strength to strength.
He also acknowledged the laudable achievements of Emeritus Professor Akinkugbe in life, and great contributions to educational advancement in Nigeria.
“The 85, 60 and 50 that brought us together today is the celebration of his birth, career in Medicine and professorship,” he said.
The vice chancellor, Professor Luke Kolade Ayorinde, who formally instituted the university’s Scholars Award at the event, said the effort was geared towards rewarding academic performances and excellence, and that it would take effect from the 2018\2019 academic session.

He explained the three requirements for a student to merit a scholar award at KDU as ability to possess a Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.50 at 100 Level, not going below GPA of 4.0 in subsequent results all through, and ability to maintain taintless character and good moral values throughout the stay in the institution.
Presenting the three female students who emerged as the first set of scholars with their letters of award, Professor Ayorinde said they could now be addressed by the entire university community as ‘University Scholars.
He said they would also be entitled to partial scholarships and would always proceed with the officials of the university during any academic programmes and be given prominent seats.
The beneficiaries of the awards were Omotoke Sholarin-Sodara of the Department of English and Literary Studies with GPA of 4.84; Obaakin Lewis, Department of Economics with GPA of 4.82, and Otobilouwa Oladejo, Department of Microbiology with GPA of 4.74 respectively.
