The Vice-Chancellor of Kings University, Ode-Omu, Osun State, Professor Adenike Kuku on Wednesday suggested that the curriculum of all programmes in Nigerian universities be tailored towards entrepreneurship for students to become self-independent individuals.
The vice-chancellor who made the suggestion during a press briefing in preparation for the institution third convocation ceremony of the university argued that entrepreneurial skills would encourage every student to be creative and be able to add value to any given society.
According to her, learners could become job creators when they possess entrepreneurial skills that could make them have a comparative advantage over others.
Kuku said, “With this, they would be more productive in their given societies and at the same time impact practical knowledge that could be useful to people in their environments.”
Speaking on the numbers of those to be graduated at this year convocation ceremony, she gave the number as 82. Out of these, 13 of them will be graduating with first class degrees, 51, Second Class Upper Division; 16 Second Class Lower Division, and two with Third class degrees.
Professor Kuku charged the private sector to collaborate with private universities in research findings because the sector will benefit immensely from the outcome.
She advocated for the extension of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to private tertiary institutions affirming that students from the institutions are not only entitled to the fund as Nigerians but because the actual fund comes from the proceeds of their parents’ sweat.
While disclosing that Pastor Ibukun Awosika would deliver the convocation lecture titled “Sustainability of Tertiary Education: The Interplay Between the Academia and the Corporate World”, the VC said the university was firmly rooted in Information Technology adding that, lecturers in the institution also collaborate with their colleagues in other institutions in research.
