ART imitates life and life imitates art. When actress Kate Henshaw lost her bid to become a member of the House of Representatives in 2015 by crashing out during the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primaries, many expected that would be her last foray into politics.
But the veteran actress is not one to be discouraged as she flexes her muscles in the upcoming political thriller, ‘4th Republic’ due for release in April and helmed by director and writer, Ishaya Bako.
Also starring Bimbo Manuel, Sani Muazu, Enyinna Nwigwe, Linda Ejiofor and Yakubu Mohammed, Henshaw plays Mabel King, a governorship candidate in 4th Republic.

After her campaign manager, Sikiru (Jide Attah) turns up dead; King challenges the victory of the incumbent, Idris Sani played by Sani Muazu for her mandate. She has the support of her aide, Ike (Eyinna Nwigwe), and Sikiru’s daughter Bukky (Linda Ejiofor) while Sani’s associate St. James (Bimbo Manuel) and Ike’s Law School rival, Danladi (Yakubu Mohammed) try to take down witnesses.
The action-packed thriller will take viewers from voting polls marred by violence and rigging to the law court as King petitions the tribunal to reclaim her stolen mandate.
Written by Emil B. Garuba and Zainab Omaki, 4th Republic is co-produced by Griot Studios Ltd. and Amateur Heads Productions with BemPever, Bako, Kemi ‘Lala’ Akindoju and Ummi A. Yakubu as Producers.
Shot on location in Abuja, Lokoja and Lagos, 4th Republic is funded by grants from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA).
Highlighting the value of the movie to be distributed by FilmOne, Henshaw said, “4th Republic is not just a film right for the election period. I think what is most significant is the message it carries; we need to stand up for the truth and fight for justice. It’s our duty.”
