AS part of the plan to commemorate the 50 years anniversary of the creation of Kano State, the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi 11 and the richest man in Africa, Dr Aliko Dangote, have wooed Blackrhino to provide 50 megawatts of solar energy for the state.
The state deputy governor, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar said this while flagging off the activities to commence the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the creation of the state, tagged Kano Golden Jubilee. He said the state government, in collaboration with a conglomerate named Blackrhino group would generate solar energy.
The deputy governor, who expressed the optimism over the success of the power generation project, explained that Kano State had, with an abundance of sunshine, the potentials that could propel the projects to success.
According to him, the capacity to generate 50 megawatts would resuscitate the ailing industrial sector and would lead to job creation, and robust economy.
The deputy governor, who serves as the chairman of the Golden Jubilee celebration, said the power project was initiated by the state government, although it recognised the role of critical stakeholders drawn from federal government agencies.
He commended the efforts of Aliko Dangote and Emir Sunusi II, for using their goodwill to facilitate the project.
The deputy governor added that the state government was working with Blackrhino group, which he described as a credible conglomerate, as against the conception nursed in certain quarters insinuating that the power project was being initiated and managed by some individuals.
He revealed that the technicalities hampering the smooth progress of independent power projects in the state was being vigorously addressed, expressing the hope that in few months, the crisis would be finally resolved.
We, like all system, had experienced challenges particularly in the area of building an egalitarian society and of course, not unmindful of the desirability for consolidating of the legacies of those that laid the foundation for a journey toward a sustainable statehood.
The journey of 50 years has, by all judgement, bequeathed on us tremendous levels of successes, it, therefore, behoves on us to commemorate this day with prayers for the continued prosperity of our state.
