Kano govt imposes movement restrictions ahead LG elections

The Kano State Government, in coordination with security agencies, has announced movement restrictions across the state from 12:00 midnight to 6:00 PM on Saturday.

This decision affects both individuals and vehicles, applying across the 44 local government areas (LGAs) and 484 electoral wards in the state.

The State Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Baba Halilu Dantiye, urged the public to respect the movement restrictions and contribute to the integrity and safety of the electoral process.

The restrictions are in place as Kano prepares for its local government elections, a significant event determining leadership at the grassroots level.

Dantiye explained that the measure is intended to maintain security, prevent potential disruptions, and promote a conducive atmosphere for a fair and credible voting process.

However, exemptions have been granted to individuals involved in official election duties and those providing essential services.

The Kano State Government also encouraged all eligible voters to participate in the electoral process, emphasizing the importance of peaceful participation as a cornerstone of the state’s democratic efforts.

“We reaffirm our commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible, and peaceful election,” Dantiye stated, underscoring the government’s commitment to a transparent electoral process.

He stressed that citizens’ adherence to the movement restrictions is vital for the overall safety and success of the elections.

Kano residents have expressed mixed reactions, with some welcoming the move as necessary for security, while others have raised concerns about the impact on daily activities.

Nonetheless, state authorities are confident that the restrictions will ultimately contribute to the smooth conduct of the elections.

As the state looks forward to the polls, Kano’s leaders hope the public will cooperate fully, demonstrating the state’s commitment to peaceful and democratic values.
