Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has announced a reshuffle of his cabinet, which includes the sacking of the Secretary to the State Government and Chief of Staff, as well as the removal of five commissioners.
Additionally, the office of Chief of Staff has been scrapped, and the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, has been reassigned from the Local Government Ministry to the Ministry of Education.
This reshuffle, which takes immediate effect, was disclosed in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, on Thursday. Governor Yusuf explained that the decision was made to enable optimal performance and bring more dividends of democracy to the people of Kano State.
In the reshuffle, the Chief of Staff, Alh. Shehu Wada Sagagi, saw his office scrapped, while the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, was dropped on health grounds. Other cabinet members were either removed or reassigned in a bid to enhance administrative performance and political retooling.
The following commissioners retained their positions:
Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi (Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice)
Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud (Commissioner for Agriculture)
Dr. Abubakar Labaran (Commissioner for Health)
Hon. Abduljabbar Mohammed Umar (Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning)
Hon. Musa Suleiman Shannon (Commissioner for Budget and Planning)
Engr. Marwan Ahmad (Commissioner for Works and Housing)
Sefiyanu Hamza (Commissioner for Solid and Mineral Resources)
Sheikh Ahmad Tijani Auwal (Commissioner for Religious Affairs)
Hon. Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso (Commissioner for Youth and Sports)
Adamu Aliyu Kibiya (Commissioner for Investment and Commerce)
Major General Mohammad Inuwa Idris (Rtd.), Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services.
However, the statement stated that those reassigned include the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam, who is moved from the Ministry of Local Government to the Ministry of Higher Education; Hon. Mohammad Tajo Usman, moved from the Ministry of Science and Technology to the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; and Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, moved from Higher Education to Science, Technology, and Innovation.
Others on the reassignment list include Hon. Amina Abdullahi, moved from the Ministry of Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation to the Ministry for Women, Children, and Disabled; Hon. Nasiru Sule Garo, moved from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to the Ministry of Special Duties.
The Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Hon. Ibrahim Namadi, has now been moved to the Ministry of Transport, while Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa of the Ministry of Education has now been moved to the Ministry of Water Resources.
On the reassigned list are Hon. Ali Haruna Makoda, moved from Water Resources to the Ministry of Education; Hon. Aisha Lawal Saji, moved from the Ministry of Women, Children, and Disabled to Tourism and Culture; and Hon. Muhammad Diggol, moved from Transport to the Ministry of Project Monitoring and Evaluation.
Meanwhile, Governor Yusuf has dropped five members of his cabinet, including Ibrahim Jibril Fagge of the Ministry of Finance; Ladidi Ibrahim Garko of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism; Baba Halilu Dantiye of the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs; Shehu Aliyu Yammedi of the Ministry of Special Duties; and Abbas Sani Abbas of the Ministry of Rural and Community Development.
Additionally, the Governor has directed the Chief of Staff and the five dropped commissioners to report to the Office of the Governor for possible reassignment.
