The pioneer Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related matters Commission, (ICPC) died in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital in the early hours of Sunday.
Reacting to his demise, legal luminary and leading aspirant for the All Progressives Congress, (APC) governorship ticket in Oyo State, Chief Adeniyi Akintola, (SAN) said the late jurist and anti-corruption crusader lived an enviable life. He noted that the late Justice Akanbi walked the talks in his advocacy that members of the Bench should be above board both in their public and private life.
The statement reads in part: “He lived a worthy, exemplary life. He was a pious man, a Moslem that walked the talks. The late Justice Akanbi was more concerned about the hereafter that anytime he spoke, he laced his words with God’s admonitions. He was not materialistic and would have been a Moslem cleric, preacher, if he didn’t practise law. We thank God for his life
” It was shocking. We are going to miss him. Personally, I am going to miss him. He was a father to me and took interest in my nuclear family. He monitored my progress and was always there to offer personal advice. Even in this my personal project of running for governorship, he was one of those I consulted.
“When he was sick and was in London, I was in constant touch with him. He was a man after my heart and we are going to miss him.
” There is a lot to learn from him. The late Justice Akanbi lived a disciplined, spartan life. We pray to Allah to grant him Aljanat Firdaus.”
