The delivery took place at the wee hours of Monday at her regular roadside spot at 1st Marine Gate off Gbiaye Street in Warri, South Local Government Area.
The incident attracted the attention of neighbours and passersby who began to show love and sympathy, doling out money to mother and child.
Popularly known as “Calabar,” she was a regular bizarre sight in front of a yet-to-be-completed new structure close to the T-Junction of Gbiaye Street in 1st Marine Gate.
Residents of the area, especially, women, who got a hint of the development, promptly cleaned her up and provided her with food and clothing.
The woman is said to hail from Akwa Ibom State, just as women in the neighbourhood bathe, gave her a haircut and clothe her to look decent.
The face of the father of the baby girl is yet to be established, although sources said some make folk living in the area had always sneaked to have carnal knowledge of the benign woman even when she was pregnant.
A source told Tribune Online on Monday that another Male folk was seen Sunday night making fruitless attempt to sleep with her, as the woman was said to have refused his advances.
Meanwhile, a senior female police officer, who lives in the neighbourhood, carried the baby to her apartment.
Confronted to explain her motive, the female police officer zoomed off in her car with the baby under the pretext of taking her to the Child Welfare Unit under the Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs only to return to the “B” Division in Warri.
A few minutes later, after a phone call was made to CP Yinka Adeleke on the development, he ordered a team of Policemen from “A” Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Olawale Ayoola, to retrieve the baby girl from the policewoman.
Police operatives from Enerhen Police Station, led by DPO Bello Muktari, also met their colleagues from A Division and collectively escorted mother and child to an undisclosed hospital for proper medical care.
As of the time of filing the report, the Warri Police Command had taken full responsibility for the upkeep of mother and child as no relative of the woman had surfaced.
