IN its efforts to ensure professionalism, fairness and accuracy in reporting, Gombe State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has engaged Journalists in the state in a one day pre-2019 general elections coverage.
The aim of the training is to sensitize the Journalists on the need for adequate, factual, fair reportage of election activities before, during and after the elections in accordance with the Electoral Act and other relevant laws of the country.
Chairman of the Council, Saidu Bappah Malala while speaking at the training called on Journalists to do everything professionally possible in ensuring that they discharged their professional duties according to the rules and regulations as well as ethics guiding the profession.
He said this is so important if Journalists must earn the respect and goodwill of the public and other professional colleagues and appreciated the sponsor of the workshop, Jamilu Isiaku Gwamna, one of the PDP governorship aspirants in the State who he described as a media-friendly aspirant.

In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Umar Ahmed Suleiman who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Saidu Baba Gadam, reiterated the State Government’s commitment in ensuring a conducive working environment for Journalists.
The Commissioner said that no government will succeed in its programmes without the Media playing its role effectively as one of the major stakeholders.
Resource persons during the training included the Director-General, National Broadcasting Commission, Ishaq Modibo Kawu who was represented by Alhaji Usman Kuna, Mr Bigun Mohorret, the Public Affairs Officer of Gombe office of INEC and Lawal Yusuf Saulawa, former Executive Director of FRCN Kaduna.
