Arrangements have been concluded by the former President Goodluck Jonathan to convene a national democracy dialogue to examine the state of Nigeria’s democracy and the role of political parties in strengthening democratic governance.

The former president who disclosed this during the public presentation of the autobiography of former Plateau State Governor, Senator Jonah David Jang, titled: ‘From Soldiering to Politics’, marking the former governor’s 80th birthday in Jos, Plateau State, over the weekend, stated that the dialogue is slated for this month.

He mentioned that the national dialogue is being organised by the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, and expected to bring together political leaders, policymakers, scholars and other stakeholders to deliberate on the evolution of political parties and the challenges of navigating democracy in Nigeria.

According to him, part of the topical issues that would be discussed include how political parties are evolving and how Nigeria can continue to navigate and strengthen democracy, stressing that building strong political parties and democratic institutions remained critical to Nigeria’s stability, national unity and sustainable development.

The former president described the celebrant, Senator Jonah David Jang as a strong will personality whose life exemplifies faith, sacrifice, discipline and selfless service to the nation.

“Senator Jonah Jang has served this country in many capacities as a military officer, military administrator, senator and governor. His journey reminds us that leadership should not be defined by titles alone but by commitment, discipline and the willingness to serve others.

“I had the privilege of working with Senator Jang when I was President and he was Governor of Plateau State. We found him to be a dependable partner who was committed to the progress of his state and supported our collective efforts to strengthen national unity and deepen our democracy,” Jonathan stated.
