The Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) has, on Thursday, inaugurated and inducted new members into the Ogun State chapter.
The event, which was themed “3Cs Safety Model: Safety Culture Excellence through Competence, Communication and Collaboration”, took place at Bezer Hall, Sango Ota, Ogun State.
Dignitaries present at the event include the National President of the institute, Dr. Udezi Stephen, the Registrar of the institute, Benjamin Modebe, and the Ogun State Chairman, Amoo Temitope, alongside other national and state executives of the institute.
Speaking at the event, ISPON president, Dr Stephen Udezi, seeks the integration of safety studies into Nigeria’s school curriculum as a strategic measure to curb preventable fatalities in workplaces and communities across the country.
He urged the federal government to enact and enforce stiffer safety policies across industries and workplaces to prevent hazards and unnecessary deaths.

Udezi charged new members of the institute to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
“Nigeria as a nation has witnessed a series of avoidable fatalities largely due to poor safety consciousness,” Udezi said. “That is why we are advocating for a law that will ensure safety is taught in our schools from primary through tertiary levels. This will inculcate the right safety culture at the elementary stage and ultimately save lives.
“Most of the casualties recorded in the country are avoidable when citizens are properly sensitised on the need to be safety-conscious at all times. Safety is not a luxury; it is a necessity for national development,” he concluded
Also speaking, the Country Safety, Health and Environmental Sustainability Manager at Nestlé, Raphael Fischer, in his presentation, titled “The Nexus of Professional Integrity and Organisational Safety Performance”, emphasized the importance of ethical conduct and professional standards in achieving sustainable workplace safety and improved organisational outcomes.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of awards to deserving partners and friends of the institute in recognition of their contributions to the advancement of occupational safety and health practices.
