The Afor Awkunanaw market and adjoining shops on Agbani Road adjacent to the 103 Battalion Barracks, Enugu was thrown into confusion at 3 pm on Monday.
People were running from all directions with most of them not aware of the cause of the rumpus.
However, most surmised that it would not be unconnected with the Ghost Monday ordered by IPOBwhich though suspended was observed in many places.
According to market sources word had filtered in that those who observed the Ghost Monday in breach in the Ogbete and Aria markets had been attacked by unidentified persons with some shops and stalls torched.
On account of this those who had opened their stalls at Afor Awkunanaw quickly beat a fast retreat, leading to traders and shoppers scampering for safety.
Security at the Army barracks gate was beefed up, though the soldiers did not come out.
There has been no casualty or arson here.
Efforts to get the Enugu Command PPRO, Dan Ndukwe, did not yield any fruits as his phone rang several times, without any response.
