Damilare Oyetunji, an experienced project manager and digital transformation expert is one of the emerging leaders shaping the future of digital technology and innovation in Nigeria.
Damilare studied Project management for his first degree, a deliberate decision premised on his deep passion for effective solution delivery and continuous improvement. Through his academic research and industry work, he has contributed immensely to the discipline of digital transformation and project management. Damilare bagged a bachelor’s degree in Project Management Technology from the prestigious Federal University of Technology Akure, one of the leading academic hubs in Nigeria. An individual with so much drive for excellence, Damilare graduated as one of the best students during his convocation and among the top 5 in his faculty. Just as he excelled in the classroom, he also contributed to the community by being one of the student leaders for Enactus Nigeria and carrying out numerous projects which earned him awards from Enactus and the university.
After his degree, Damilare started as a Project Officer and through dedication has grown to be an Agile coach and one of the leading Digital transformation experts that we have in Nigeria. He is a Certified associate in project management and has a certification as a Professional Scrum Master. He has a strong passion for helping businesses deliver innovative solutions using cutting-edge technologies and creating an enabling environment. He has led different multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams as an Agile lead to deliver solutions which include Cybersecurity solutions, Network Infrastructure, Software as a Service, Mobile and Web applications, etc.
Currently, Damilare is a Scrum Master/Team Lead Agile delivery in one of the leading commercial banks in Nigeria where he is leading a team of more than 40 people including software engineers and product managers to build different innovative features and maintain the bank’s digital platform which accrues hundreds of millions of naira to the bank. Through the exceptional work that he and his team have done, the bank’s platform VULTe has been voted as the Digital Bank of the Year in Nigeria.
Damilare is not only exceptional at what he does as a professional, but he is also passionate about grooming the next generation of Project managers and digital transformation experts. In collaboration with Young African Leaders Initiatives (YALI), he mentored about 15 young graduates on how they can transition into digital technology through Agile delivery and the opportunity it presents. Following the mentorship program, more than 40% of the mentees got a tech internship role within 12 months. Additionally, he also mentored a coalition of youths in the Redeemed Christian Church of God as part of the annual youth program and held a master class in Project Management, teaching them the fundamentals of the discipline and how they can be a standout.
Speaking to Tribune online, Damilare mentioned that his vision is to promote the use of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning in the practice of Agile delivery to foster efficiency and increase an organization’s performance. To achieve this, Damilare is already planning to further his studies or take additional courses that will give him more technical competence in this area. He plans to be at the forefront of aligning Nigeria with the global trends of leveraging Artificial Intelligence to improve productivity and reduce operational redundancies.
With Damilare’s competence, drive for excellence and innovativeness, he is undoubtedly on his way to inspiring the next generation of digital transformation experts and project managers and putting Nigeria on the world map.
In Damilare’s words ‘As Agile Coach and Digital Transformation experts, we need to leave our comfort zone and leverage the opportunity that AI and ML offer, my commitment is to take everyone with me out of this comfort zone of using legacy systems/practices’.
