Armed Forces of Nigeria have repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on troops of the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation HADIN KAI in Benisheikh, with several soldiers killed in the encounter.

The Military High Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Michael Onoja.

According to the statement, the attack occurred at about 12:30 am when insurgents attempted to breach the military formation’s defensive perimeter.

Troops, led by the Brigade Commander, Oseni Braimah, were said to have responded with “exceptional courage and superior firepower,” successfully repelling the attackers.

“The insurgents were decisively engaged and forced to retreat in disarray, abandoning their mission,” the statement said, adding that the failed assault reflects the desperation of terrorist elements following recent operational losses.

However, the military confirmed that “a few brave and gallant soldiers paid the supreme price” during the encounter.

The Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, paid tribute to the fallen troops, describing their sacrifice as a source of pride and inspiration to the nation.

The High Command also extended condolences to the families of the deceased and urged the public to allow proper notification of next of kin before further details are released.

It warned against the spread of misinformation, noting that unverified reports could undermine ongoing military operations.

The military added that clearance operations are ongoing to track fleeing insurgents and prevent them from regrouping, reaffirming its commitment to restoring peace in the North-East.

Residents were urged to remain calm, vigilant, and support security agencies with credible information.
