Lagos-based socio-political activist, Chief Adesunbo Onitiri, has applauded the clarion call by the Lagos State House of Assembly for the establishment of a state police force, adding that it is the best panacea to end insecurity in the country.
He added that it is time for the Federal Government to allow the state police force to function side by side with the Nigeria Police Force.
“It is time for us to have the state police force working side by side with the Nigeria Police Force. The era of playing politics, tribalism, nepotism, or religious sentiments with the lives and property of innocent Nigerians is gone for good,” Onitiri said.
He stressed the importance of the state police force, stating, “There is no two-way to peace in the country without the state police.”
Onitiri called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take action and send a bill to the National Assembly to amend the constitution and allow states to have their own police force.
Regarding the frequent killings in Plateau, Benue, Zamfara, and Kaduna states, Onitiri urged decisive actions by the security forces to serve as a deterrent to those who derive sadistic pleasure from killing their fellow human beings.
He also highlighted the potential benefits of establishing a state police force, stating, “Besides, the creation of state police will also serve as an avenue to create employment for our numerous restive youths.”
In conclusion, Onitiri emphasized the need for the state police force, urging the government to prioritize the security and well-being of Nigerian citizens.
