The electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission has expressed its readiness to conduct the forthcoming 2023 governorship and house of assemblies election in Sokoto State.
The National Commissioner in charge of the elections in Sokoto State, Major General Modibo Alkali (rtd), stated this during a stakeholder meeting with the leadership of political parties ahead of the forthcoming election.
Speaking at the state collation centre on Tuesday, the National Commissioner assured leaders of political parties present at the meeting that the commission under his watch will ensure that he will conduct a hitch-free election.
He reaffirmed that the commission has concluded its reconfiguration work on the BVAS machine for the polls, assuring that all is set for the elections.
He said the commission will not tolerate anyone who does anything contrary to the electoral act during the elections, saying anyone causing trouble will be arrested for prosecution.
“I have the mandate to ensure whoever causing problems during the election no matter how highly placed such person is will be arrested.
“After a such person is arrested, he will be paraded before the public and thereafter taken to Abuja to be handed over to the IGP for prosecution ” he added.
Meanwhile, the state chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Isa Sadiq Acida, urges INEC to defer the distribution of sensitive from Wednesday to Thursday for security reasons.
He said the materials will require adequate security which he said may not be available. He commend INEC for the preparation made so far for the elections.
Also speaking in his remarks, the state chairman of the PDP, Bello Aliyu Goronyo, while commending INEC for their program so far, he advised the commission to call all the candidates to order in relating to their utterances ahead of the election.
