The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday declared the governorship election in Benue State inconclusive.
Declaring the result of the governorship election at the INEC office in Makurdi, the Returning Officer, Professor Sebastine Maimako explained that the cancelled votes outweigh the margin between the first and second maximum votes, he declared the election inconclusive.
The returning officer declares that the supplementary elections will hold in the affected areas.
According to the Professor, the margin between first maximum votes and second maximum votes was lower than the cancelled votes.

The returning officer maintained that the difference between the PDP and APC candidates was 81,554 while the cancelled votes were 121,019.
In the results released by the INEC, governor Samuel Ortom of the PDP polled 410,576 votes while the APC candidate, Emmanuel Jime scored 329,022 votes.
The Peoples Democratic Party won in twelve local government areas while APC won in eleven council areas.
