For us to make impact with our lives we must understand this will be the result of certain factors which shape our perspective. These factors must be taken into consideration and handled with great care. These factors will determine if we will live a life of impact or not. They will determine if we will succeed or fail or whether our success will endure or just be fleeting. Also these factors will determine if we will go through life stressed out or move with ease to get things done.
These factors include people’s opinion, situations and circumstances, custom and tradition, failures and successes, experiences and exposures. How we relate and handle these factors will shape our perspective.
Perspective is how we see things; it is our particular attitude towards people, things or situations. It determines how we see and relate with people, situations and life and this in turn determines if we will determine the quality of our impact. Our perspective powers our lives. If we see life as a battle we will keep fighting. If our perspective of life is that life is a party we will never take life serious. If we see life as a burden we will always feel burdened with life. Our perspective must not be one-tracked but multi dimensional based on the situation and season of life we find ourselves. A wrong perspective is inimical to our making impact in life.
“Too many people blow their problems way out of proportion, devoting precious mental energy to situations which do not carry “life or death” consequences. Virtually all of us will fall into this trap on occasion, but those who spend the least amount of time obsessing on trivial circumstances are likely to accomplish far more and be happier in the process!
Yet, perspective encompasses more than just steering clear of petty upsets. It suggests that you’ve considered your place in this world and that you appreciate “the big picture.”
As you widen the lens of your perception, you’ll experience less tension, improve your attitude, develop keener insight into the meaning of your life, and most likely enjoy greater material success as well.” Jeff Keller
The most important area we need to have an accurate perspective is about ourselves. If we get it right about ourselves then, we are on the road to great impact.
“When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world. I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation. When I found I couldn’t change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn’t change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family. Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world.” Author Unknown
How we see ourselves will determine how we will turn out. We are who and where we are now due to the perspective we have developed about ourselves. We cannot make any impact if we have wrong view of ourselves. We are important and the world needs our impact.
