The Imo State House of Assembly has adopted a motion urging Governor Hope Uzodimma to as a matter of necessity dissolve all boards of parastatals, local government development centres, and extra-ministerial departments including commissions in the state.
This is coming barely a few weeks after the governor had sacked all his appointees, including commissioners, special advisers, special assistants and senior special assistants
The motion titled ‘Motion Of Urgent Public Importance And Motion To Immediately Dissolve All Boards Of Parastals And Agencies Of Imo State Government, Extra Ministerial Departments And Commissions In The State Including Development Centre Coordinators’, which was presented by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu, representing Nwangele state Constituency, at the plenary session on Tuesday on the floor of the house was unanimously adopted.
The Deputy Speaker argued that the essence of the motion for dissolution is to improve the public services and rejig the entire system.
While calling for the dissolution of boards of parastatals amongst others, the Deputy Speaker pointed out the need for considerations of excellence and merit in the course of making new appointments by the governor.
He commended Governor Hope Uzodimma on his second term re-election, pointing out that the new administration of the governor needs rejigging the team that will widen her scope for the good of Imo State
According to him, the motion is described as very important given the fact that it will give Imo new directions and hope.
Supporting the motion, the House of Assembly member representing Ngor Okpala State Constituency, Hon Obinna Egu described it as very important that the boards of parastatals be dissolved so that it will allow the government to bring in fresh ideas to augment the functions and work to government in the state.
The majority leader and the lawmaker representing Owerri West state constituency Hon. Kanayo Onyemechi in supporting the motion described the dissolution of boards and commissions by the government in power as normal thing.
He said that it would be wrong for the appointees to transmit themselves into the new government, insisting that there is an absolute need for dissolution to enable the government to bring in fresh ideas in the governance of the state.
Other members of the Assembly who spoke in support of the motion include the Chief Whip Hon Chigozie Nwanere representing Oru East State Constituency, Hon Dominic Ezerioha representing Oru West Constituency and Hon Johnson Duru representing Ideator South state constituency amongst others.
