Dr Soyinka, at the University College Hospital’s Staff Medical Department said that this would also require Nigerians inculcating the habit of regular hand washing and clean environment.
She stated that maintain good hygiene would also entail proper cooking of foods, covering of food to avoid flies perching on them, proper refrigerating of leftover foods and drinking potable water.
The medical expert described cholera as a disease caused by an organism called Vibrio cholera, which easily gets transmitted when there is insufficient access to clean water.
She added that cholera can lead to spontaneous vomiting and depletion of body fluid, thus the need for such patients to be taken promptly to the hospital to ensure they can be rehydrated and treated with appropriate medicines.
