The Chief Executive Officer and founder of Rex Media and Technology Inc., Funso Amusan, has narrated how he began his music production business at the age of 17.
Amusan stated this while speaking with journalists on Monday at his firm’s headquarters during a media parley.
Speaking, the young music producer said “I am an entrepreneur with a strong inclination towards crafting habit-forming products, driven by my passion for problem-solving.
“My journey began at the age of 17 when I founded my first music production business, which ignited my deep connection with the African music industry. As the CEO of REX and a music producer at Rex Entertainment, I have been actively engaged in talent management and promoting Afrobeats shows since my college days.”
He attributed his success to the collaboration with emerging music talents like Fireboy, Blaqbonez, Asake, Chinko Ekun, Zammorra, and Cheque reflecting my early commitment to nurturing and amplifying talent.
He maintained his passion in music fueled the enthusiasm to pursue a master’s degree in Communication and Media from Coventry University, United Kingdom.
Amusan stated, “This academic journey further honed my ability to drive positive change in the promotion and growth of Afrobeat music.
“In line with this passion, I am poised to launch REX, an innovative Afrobeat-centered music streaming platform.
“REX is uniquely positioned to enhance the visibility of Afrobeat music and foster collaborative growth among black artists. Our platform, the REX App, will serve as a global hub for afrobeats enthusiasts, offering a captivating and addictive experience.
“The surge in Afrobeats streaming has provided the inspiration for REX. We are not only aiming to influence the streaming landscape but also to champion fair compensation for black artists. Our platform prioritizes user-friendliness and boasts an unparalleled recommendation engine, ensuring an immersive musical journey for our users.
“REX is committed to elevating emerging Afrobeat artists, affording them featured playlists and effortless discovery by new audiences. Our overarching vision for REX entails reaching up to 3 million monthly streamers and 1.3 million paying subscribers. Looking ahead, we aspire to be the premier destination for Afrobeats streaming, with a user base of 350 million within the next few years.
