FOR the umpteenth time, Fulani herdsmen have invaded Logo community in Benue State, this time killed two policemen and injured one.
Several persons have been killed in Guma and Logo local government areas of the state since the beginning of the New Year.
The policemen were killed on Monday when herders, according to source invaded the camp of a detachment of Mobile policemen from Mopol 13 stationed at Awashuwa in their numbers.
The policemen were recently drafted to the troubled area.
Sources said that the herdsmen had earlier on Monday invaded the camp but were repelled only for them to reinforce and returned to the camp in the evening and launched a serious attack on the policemen resulting to the death of two of them and one seriously injured.
According to one of the policemen who survived the attack told newsmen that the victims were injured and later taken to a nearby bush where they slit their throat.
One other policeman who was severely injured was stabilised in Anyii before he was moved to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), in Makurdi while the remains of the deceased policemen have been taken to the mortuary in Makurdi.
By Tuesday morning, the Benue State Police Command who went on an Ariel surveillance operation led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operation, DCP Abdul Gimba had a stopover at Awashuwa while the corpses of slain policemen were removed.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Moses Yamu who confirmed the report disclosed that a reinforcement was sent to the area from 13 PMF led by the Commander, CSP Abubakar Garba.
“Our men came under attack at Awashuwa in Logo Local Government area of the state. They were ambushed by the herdsmen who had tried to attack them earlier in the day but they were repelled. Two of our men were killed and their riffles were taken away.”
